METZELER STRIKES GOLD IN COMPREHENSIVE MOTORCYCLE NEWS TESTS!
In the Sports Touring test, Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves rode the test bike (BMW R1200RS) on a patchy damp road which was comparable to the unpredictable conditions found in the UK. Neeves commented on the Roadtec 01, “They share the Z8’s trademark, plush plugged-in feel and wet weather prowess… but they somehow manage to offer an additional layer of comfort, grip and confidence. Put simply, the Metzeler Roadtec 01 is hard to fault and offers a high level of overall performance. It’s a stand-out winner of this sports-touring tyre test.”
In the Sports tyre test the team used a BMW S1000RR on the GP circuit of Aragon. The Road Race developed Metzeler Sportec M7RR came out as the winner, prompting Neeves to say, ”Last year’s MCN Award-winning tyres feel more like trackday tyres than sports rubber, but unlike racier tyres, warm up extremely quickly. They offer so much confidence and safety that I wanted to stay out and play on them after the test was finished. They give the sense that there’s a huge contact patch to lean on in the corners, under acceleration and on the brakes. They make the S1000RR extremely easy to ride fast, which is shown in the lap time.”
Moving onto the second place, new for 2016, Pirelli Diablo Rosso III, the tyre was described as, “The Rosso III’s let you have fun on a superbike safely around a fast track so on the road you’ll never get close to their limit. They did everything extremely well but they really excelled in overall stability. They warm up quickly, which is a benefit on the road and track. Overall these are fast, confidence-inspiring tyres.”
